Talking Geese

The ducks and geese were chattering, honking and generally making a ruckus out on the water when we got to Clay’s favorite nature center Sunday afternoon.

“We’re so surprised about the geese,” Clay typed, sitting on a bench along the trail.

“What surprised you about them?” my wife asked in response.

“They are so talkative.”

“I know. Not a peaceful day here. But fun.”

“So true. Still fun.”

So we walked the trails on a sunny Sunday afternoon while a northern wind blew the leaves from the trees.

We asked Clay to identify some of the leaves.

“Oak”, he typed. Correct.

“Sycamore,” he typed at first. When we asked again later, he changed it to “Tulip Tree.” Correct. The second time.

“Magnolia.” Correct.

How do you know?” my wife asked.

“So smart,” he typed.

After one more loop around the reservoir, it was time to head home. Apple cider and the mint chocolate chip cookies my wife baked the night before were beckoning.

Sounds relaxing. I wish I was there minus the chilly weather. Also I’ve been meaning to respond to the post about maverick. Sorry to hear that. He will be missed. Keep me posted about your next dog and how Clay takes to him/her.
